GreenComp Café Series 2026: 
Exploring Green Competences for Intergenerational Fairness
Session 3: Advancing Co‑creation of Practical Activities

The GreenComp Café Series 2026 is a four‑part learning journey designed to bring the Education for Climate community together around one key question: how can sustainability competences support fairer decisions for both present and future generations?

This year’s series is closely aligned with the EU’s 2026 Strategy on Intergenerational Fairness (IGF), creating a space to explore how the GreenComp framework can be applied in practice to support more equitable, future‑oriented thinking across education and professional contexts.

Across four cafés running from April to November 2026, participants will move from exploration to co‑creation and finally to sharing real‑world practices. The series is designed to build momentum over time, with each session contributing to a collective process of developing and testing practical approaches that can be used in different local contexts.

The first café on 15 April established the foundation for this journey, and the second café on 10 June supported participants in forming groups and beginning to design practical exercises or learning activities.

The second café on 10 June, projects and ideas combining IGF and green competences for local education contexts will be put forth and groups will be formed. 

In this third café on 22 July, participants will continue the co‑creation process by refining and advancing the projects they began in the previous session. The focus will be on strengthening ideas so they are relevant, transferable, and actionable across different local, national, and sectoral realities. By the end of this café, groups will have concrete projects or exercises to be tested. Participants will then have the period until 11 November to try out their ideas in practice, document their experiences, and prepare to report back in the final café.

Summary

The third GreenComp Café of the 2026 series continued the collaborative learning journey established through the four interconnected cafés. Building on the foundations laid during the first café and the group formation and initial co-creation work undertaken during the second café, this session focused on advancing participants' educational activities and strengthening collaboration within the established working groups.

The session opened with a short recap of the previous two cafés. Participants were reminded of the first session held on 15 April, which introduced the GreenComp framework alongside the new EU Strategy on Intergenerational Fairness (2026) and invited participants to explore the connections between the two concepts through collaborative discussions. A recap of the second café (10 June) followed, highlighting how participants had formed working groups based on their preferred educational level and had begun co-designing practical learning activities.

A total of 23 participants attended the session, including both returning participants and newcomers. To ensure continuity, each breakout room included participants who had taken part in the previous café and were therefore able to introduce newcomers to the ideas, discussions and progress already made.

Participants worked in three breakout groups, targeting Adult Learning, Primary Education, and Secondary Education. Throughout the collaborative sessions, groups continued refining their educational concepts, discussing learning objectives, GreenComp competences, teaching approaches and practical implementation within their respective educational contexts. The atmosphere remained highly collaborative, with participants actively building on each other's ideas and sharing experiences from their own educational practice.

At 17:50, all participants reconvened in the main session, where each ‘break-out room group’ presented the progress they had made during the breakout discussions. The presentations demonstrated genuine interest in the concepts since the previous café and generated engaging exchanges between the groups. Participants showed a high level of engagement throughout the session, contributing constructive feedback and reflecting on how their ideas could be further strengthened before implementation.

The session concluded by outlining the next phase of the learning journey. Between July and the final café on 11 November 2026, participants will continue developing their activities independently and, where possible, begin implementing or testing them within their own educational settings. During the final café, participants will reconvene to present the outcomes of their work, share lessons learned, reflect on the implementation process, and exchange experiences with the wider community.

Overall, the third café successfully strengthened the collaborative process established earlier in the series. It enabled participants to further develop their educational ideas, welcomed new contributors into the existing working groups, and created a clear pathway towards practical implementation and shared reflection during the concluding session 11 November.
