Welcome to the 3 Billion Trees Pledge hosted by DG Environment!
Our aim is to double the 300 million trees that have grown each year between 2010 and 2015 so that we reach 600 million trees grown per year. By 2030, this means 3 billion additional trees compared to “business as usual”!
What does this mean in practice?
These additional trees need to be planted and grown in full respect of ecological principles: the right tree has to be planted in the right place and for the right purpose.
What does this have to do with education? How can you contribute as student, teacher, education stakeholder?
This is where our participatory challenge sets in!
In our co-innovation labs, we aspire to:
- make the many planting and natural regeneration activities that are already taking place in Europe visible and connected to share experiences & good practices
- brainstorm, co-create and foster synergies for what learning environments need for planting trees:
- concrete activities around greening spaces/ planting trees
- learning materials taking up the issue to adapt and multiply
- connecting resources making tree planting possible locally
Ready - for brainstorming & co-creating concrete tree-planting activities, materials and resources for, in and around learning environments?
Set - for those actions, i.e. everything in place to do so?
Go - let's apply what we have come up with across Europe!
Ready? - Set. - Go!
What do you already do for sustainable tree planting?
Which activities? What materials? How do you secure the resources you need?
