GrecoTrails is a learner-led initiative that connects climate education with digital and entrepreneurial skills.
Students designed a platform showcasing sustainable tourism trails, using AI, AR, VR, and gamified tools (digital quizzes about SDGs, digital escape rooms from archaelogical museums, virtual reality folk museums, 3D timelines, digital comics, infographics, and student worksheets, AR floor plan of archaeological museums, treasure hunt games in archaeological sites, AI chatbots about sustainability etc) to raise environmental awareness and engage their communities. It also includes interactive maps with educational routes, sustainable trips guide, a planning and evaluation tool for the environmental, social, and economic sustainability of educational visits, and proposals for educational trips organized by region, theme, and educational level.
GrECOtrails addresses to students and teachers of all educational levels who wish to organize educational visits with sustainable features, families and parents seeking high-quality, experiential activities for their children, individuals interested in high-quality, non-mass tourism with an educational dimension, local authorities and organizations (e.g., municipalities, environmental education centers, NGOs) aiming to promote their cultural and environmental heritage through education and tourism organizations and professionals involved in educational tourism.
The project is aligned with GreenComp, EntreComp, and DigComp frameworks—helping students develop green competences, entrepreneurial mindset, and digital skills such as content creation, digital communication, and responsible online collaboration.
By working with schools, local authorities, and environmental stakeholders, grecoTrails fosters meaningful place-based learning and civic engagement. It supports Education for Climate priorities: raising awareness, training teachers, changing behaviours, building green skills, and bridging science with education.
GrecoTrails shows how student agency can drive both local impact and global climate action.
