In a world increasingly shaped by the urgency of climate action, a new generation of changemakers is stepping up – not just to learn, but to lead. Meet the GreenScouts: vocational education and training (VET) learners from Germany, the Netherlands and Spain who participated in the GreenScouts Programme with the aim of transforming sustainability from a concept into a workplace reality.
The Road So Far: Building the Foundation for Change
Starting in late 2023, the project team started their work on GreenScouts (project website) and developed together a comprehensive workshop curriculum, complete with slides and materials for teachers as well as a detailed handbook for learners, providing the knowledge base needed to understand sustainable practices and their relevance in a work context.
Over the past months, VET learners from three vocational schools in Germany, the Netherlands and Spain have embarked on a journey of growth and empowerment. Through a series of preparation workshops, they engaged in hands-on activities designed to spark curiosity and build practical skills. Structured guidance during work-based learning ensured that GreenScouts could apply their insights directly within their professional environments, identifying real-world opportunities for sustainable transformation.
From Learners to Leaders
In June, the GreenScouts gathered in Dresden for a milestone event: a collaborative showcase of their sustainability strategies. From energy-saving initiatives to waste reduction plans, their ideas reflected not only creativity but a deep commitment to making a tangible difference.
These strategies will soon be available online, offering a glimpse into how young minds are shaping a greener future – one workplace at a time. Initially, access to this virtual gallery will be granted exclusively to industry representatives, in particular work-based learning and internship providers. They will be invited to evaluate and select the three winning strategies across the following categories: most feasible, most adaptable and most innovative.
The Road Ahead: Innovation in Action
Next on the horizon is our final Multiplier Event, scheduled for 25 November, 1-2:30pm CET. During this online gathering, we’ll present our Transfer Concept, designed to extend the impact of the GreenScouts Programme beyond its initial scope. The event will also feature testimonials from VET learners and teachers, opportunities for networking and a panel discussion. Registrations will open by the end of September, so mark your calendars – whether you're an educator, employer or fellow learner, this is your chance to be inspired by real-world solutions.
