The last ten years have been marked by the emergence of citizen mobilization around climate issues. Among them, young people have particularly distinguished themselves by actively participating in climate marches. The Clicks On project was designed to address this growing interest among young people, with a focus on schools. Its goal is to provide teachers and students with the knowledge and tools they need to take concrete action on greenhouse gas emissions in their schools. Clicks On aims to support young people in their commitment by offering them an educational project tailored to this major challenge.

Clicks On and Clicks On Act

This project is made up two constitutive parts : drawing-up an estimate of the school emissions before laying-out and enacting a transition plan !

Each part is thought of as a yearly project, but can be carried out on multiple years depending on the schools’ contexts and ambitions.

Goals

The project harbors many ambitious goals that shapeshift to fit each specific school’s needs and wants. Indeed, the goal is to give teachers and students the tools to navigate a transitioning world. First, by understanding the stakes of climate change, then giving them a peek into the carbon accounting world by assessing an estimate of their school’s emissions - helping them develop familiarity and skills in a concrete and solid methodology. Once the school’s emissions are assessed, it’s time for the transition plan : a school-wide, structured process to implement concrete and lasting change in the school.

Whether they are working on the first or second part of the project, the students learn to rely on their communities : no one can transition alone. Not only the school’s staff, but also all its stakeholders, neighborhood, and policy-makers are playing a role that the students slowly come to map and understand before reaching out to them during their transition endeavor.

Free trainings and resources for teachers

In order to support a smooth implantation of the project inside schools, we are dedicated to help teachers’ skill-building in these areas by designing training workshops, and self-training guides; but also developing free and open source resources to bolster day to day sequences with students.

Where are we at ?

The development of the first part of the Clicks On project started in 2020. Today, five years later, more than 300 schools have enrolled to estimate their schools’ emissions. The second opus, Clicks On Act, has finished the first development phase and is being tested in schools across Europe.
