Community spotlight
Across the Education for Climate Community, members have been busy with a range of recent initiatives and projects. Below, we highlight some of the recent contributions:
🌱SoilTribes
🏆 One of the winning projects of the 2025 Call for Inspiring Green Education Actions, in the thematic area of Citizenship Education, the project SoilTribes showcases how reconnecting people with soil can drive climate action and community care.
Funded by the EU under Horizon Europe, it unites scientists, educators, artists, and communities to create “glocal” ecosystems of soil stewardship. Through workshops, festivals, and educational activities, SoilTribes turns soil into a shared focus of responsibility, linking local action to a Europe-wide mission. Rooted in action, the project highlights that healthy soils are essential not just for food and biodiversity, but for the sustainable future of people and the plane.

🏫Greening Vocational Education Through the Whole Institution Approach
Building green competences requires more than teaching sustainability in the classroom. The GreenComp framework highlights the Whole Institution Approach (WIA) as an effective way for schools to embed sustainability across teaching, campus life, governance, and community engagement.
The Erasmus+ project GreenVET Pathways is putting this into practice through a trans-European Community of Practice, where VET schools collaborate, develop action plans, and implement initiatives ranging from zero-waste cooking to sustainable farming and energy projects.
To support schools on this journey, the project offers free tools such as the GreenVET Database, the Green Futures Framework, and a Whole Institution School Survey, with a dedicated Pathway platform coming soon.

♻️GetGreen: Empowering Schools as Living Labs for Climate Action
How can schools become active hubs for sustainability, not just in theory but in practice?
The GreenEdTech project addresses this through GetGreen, a digital platform connecting schools with companies, municipalities, and researchers to tackle real-world climate challenges.
Pupils develop sustainability competences inspired by GreenComp while advising local authorities, improving biodiversity trails, and designing sustainable products. Teachers receive practical training, ready-to-use exercises, and assessment tools that support STEAM and interdisciplinary learning.
By combining project-based, learner-led, and community-driven approaches, GetGreen turns classrooms into living labs where students actively shape a sustainable future.
