Community bulletin #5: pre-COP | COP26 | Education for Climate Day

“Human-induced climate change is already affecting many weather and climate extremes in every region across the globe. Evidence of observed changes in extremes such as heatwaves, heavy precipitation, droughts, and tropical cyclones, and, in particular, their attribution to human influence, has strengthened since [2014]” (IPCC 2021).

Working together is the only way to fight climate change.

Education plays a key role in responding and adapting to this incoming systemic change by developing and bridging the knowledge, skills, behaviours and values that will enable young Europeans to become engaged and responsible professionals and citizens.

This is at the core of our participatory community’s vision which we address through asking “how can education support the transition towards a climate-neutral society?” at three milestone events structuring the Education for Climate Coalition’s autumn:

the pre-COP in Milan  the COP26 in Glasgow  the first Education for Climate Day

What answers to this question did we come up with so far?

  • Re-watch  the education challenges we discussed at the #Youth4Climate #All4Climate pre-COP in Milan

  • Take our flash survey to let us know what your education for climate challenge is – and share it with as many peers as possible: results are meant to be the stepping stones for the first participatory challenges on the Education for Climate's collaborative online platform.

Which dialogues will follow?

What is happening right now in the community?

There are 3 main working areas running in parallel:

  • community networking – for example at the (pre-)COP events mentioned in this newsletter: come and make a difference!

  • community engagement – to support the co-creation of the #EducationforClimate Coalition as pan-European community that makes sense first and foremost for you, the education community: now in platform beta-testing mode!

Working towards 25th November also means that we want to test the collaborative platform with you beforehand. After a short community workshop break that we will use to polish the platform based on your extensive feedback that we cherish a lot, we will resume at the end of October to get your feedback on it.

It’s your platform to interact on, so it needs to correspond to your needs to make concrete education for climate actions happen together.

You as the #EducationForClimate core community will have early access to the platform, so be part of sessions getting you onboard and starting the co-design process with a view on shaping November 25:

Looking forward to seeing you all there!
