The Education for Climate Coalition has published its 2025 annual report, offering a look back at a year of growing participation, stronger community connections and practical climate education in action.
The report captures how the Coalition continued to bring together educators, learners, researchers, young people and organisations across Europe to exchange ideas, share good practices and turn climate education into meaningful action on the ground.

A growing community for climate education
In 2025, the Education for Climate Community continued to grow as a lively space for collaboration and exchange.
By the end of the year, the platform brought together more than 10 200 registered users from 51 countries. The community also reached more people than before, with a 46% increase in unique visitors compared with 2024.
Behind these numbers is a growing network of people who are using education to respond to the climate challenge – in classrooms, schools, universities, youth spaces, local communities and beyond.
Green education ideas on the rise
One of the highlights of the year was the annual call for Innovative Green Education Actions.
The 2025 call attracted more than 100 submissions, showing the creativity and commitment of educators, learners and organisations across Europe. Projects explored topics such as schools as living labs for sustainability, GreenComp in STEM teaching and learning, citizenship education, soil health, regenerative practices and hands-on climate action.
The high level of participation showed just how many inspiring ideas are already being tested and shared across the community.
Young people shaping the conversation
Youth engagement was another strong feature of 2025.
The Youth Climate LAB received 354 applications, confirming the strong interest among young people in shaping the future of climate education. Participants worked together to develop practical recommendations and learning ideas connected to key European competence frameworks, including GreenComp, LifeComp, DigComp and EntreComp.
Their work brought fresh perspectives to the community and showed how young people can move from participation to co-creation – helping design learning approaches that speak to their realities, concerns and hopes for the future.
Education for Climate Day: learning to prepare
Education for Climate Day 2025 brought the community together under the theme ‘Learning to Prepare’.
The event explored how education can help people and communities become more resilient, ready and able to respond to climate-related challenges. It attracted more than 1 000 registrations and over 1 400 live streaming connections, with many people joining the event for the first time.
Participants came together to discover community stories, youth-led ideas, policy perspectives and practical education initiatives. The strong satisfaction rate showed that the event continues to be an important moment for connection, inspiration and shared learning.
Bringing GreenComp into practice
Throughout the year, the Coalition continued to support the use of GreenComp, the European framework for sustainability competences.
Through GreenComp Cafés, co-creation workshops, STE(A)M activities and practical tools, community members explored how sustainability competences can become part of everyday teaching and learning.
One important development was the creation of an interactive tool to help people discover and better understand the GreenComp framework. This kind of practical support makes it easier for educators and practitioners to move from awareness to action.
A year of connection, creativity and practical outcomes
The report also highlights many other activities that shaped the year, from Community Cafés and Education for Climate TALKs to the GreenComp meets STE(A)M initiative and stronger collaboration with other European climate and education communities.
Together, these activities show a clear direction: the Education for Climate Coalition is becoming not only a place to exchange ideas, but also a space where those ideas can grow into concrete tools, recommendations, projects and partnerships.
