The TEK Pulse is an interactive mapping tool designed to examine how Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) and Indigenous and local knowledge intersect with all 169 targets of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Rather than offering a generic framework, the tool evaluates every single SDG target across two distinct axes: how strongly local knowledge bears on the target (relevance) and how far active policy mechanisms currently draw upon that knowledge (integration). 

By anchoring every evaluation in named, authoritative sources, such as IPBES assessments, FAO food system studies, UNESCO guidelines, and UNDRIP, the tool illuminates high-priority opportunities where traditional knowledge is vital to achieving a target but remains under-utilised in practice.

Beyond acting as a comprehensive data index, the TEK Pulse serves as a bridge between high-level international goals and ground-level practice. Users can filter targets by relevance, toggle between target-by-target analysis and framework summaries, or click individual snapshots for source-anchored insights. 

Aligned directly with the European Commission's GreenComp sustainability competencies, the tool is built for educators, researchers, and policy advocates. It provides a practical foundation to help learners analyse environmental data, investigate local community practices, and turn abstract global targets into place-based, actionable sustainability strategies.
