Our Education for Climate Community keeps on growing! Last month, the community was abuzz with 47 new topics created on the platform. Thank you to everyone who continues to share ideas, post resources and bring fresh energy to the platform.
This month, there are plenty of ways to stay involved. The Call for Innovative Green Education Actions is currently open, inviting the community to share inspiring projects that turn climate and sustainability education into action. You can also propose a local side event to be recognised and promoted as part of Education for Climate Day 2026. And save the date: Education for Climate Day 2026 will take place on 22 October in Brussels, focusing on intergenerational fairness.

💻 Green digital hackathon 2025–2026
Community member Fabrice Serodes shared an update on the Green Digital Hackathon 2025–2026, an intensive, collaborative event where students, educators, developers and innovators team up to design digital solutions for real-world challenges. Check out the two winning projects and their inspiring actions.
🌱 From climate anxiety to action: how K-12 students in Türkiye are engineering a sustainable future
Community member Çelebi Kalkan shared an inspiring example, where climate change is taught not as a distant problem, but as a design challenge.
Through the centre’s Entrepreneurship Workshop for Sustainable Development Goals, gifted K-12 students use STEM, systems thinking and social empathy to create practical solutions for a more sustainable future.
🍽️ Turning GreenComp into action through the FOOD 2030 Science Education Toolkit
Community member Federica Pastore introduced the FOOD 2030 Science Education Toolkit, developed through the CLEVERFOOD project.
The toolkit helps educators bring GreenComp competences into learning about food systems. It is designed for teachers, museum and science centre professionals, chefs, farmers, researchers, community educators and families.

📢 Share your innovative green education action
The Call for Innovative Green Education Actions is open!
Are you working on a project that brings climate and sustainability education to life? This is your chance to share it with the Education for Climate Community and inspire others across Europe and beyond.
The call is looking for practical, creative and participatory projects that show how learning can support climate action in one of the following topics:
- Youth leadership and intergenerational dialogue for climate action
- Citizenship education and institutional action for sustainability
- GreenComp: envisioning sustainable futures in teaching and learning
Selected projects will be featured on the Education for Climate platform and invited to present their actions on stage at the Education for Climate Day in Brussels.

🗓️ Save the date for Education for Climate Day 2026
Education for Climate Day 2026 will take place on 22 October in Brussels, bringing the community together around this year’s theme: intergenerational fairness.
The event will explore how education can help learners, educators, communities and institutions make decisions that are fair for both present and future generations. It will be an opportunity to exchange ideas, discover community-led action and connect local experiences to wider conversations on sustainability competences. Registrations will open soon, and we’ll share all the details in an upcoming update.

🌍 Host a local side event for Education for Climate Day 2026
The call for local side events is open! Community members are invited to organise local activities, either online or in person, to be recognised and promoted as part of Education for Climate Day 2026.
Side events should take place between 7 September and 21 October 2026 and connect to this year’s theme: intergenerational fairness. This is a chance to showcase your climate education work, connect your local community to a wider European audience and contribute to a shared movement for sustainability competences.
To take part, create an event page on the Education for Climate platform and submit your event through the webform by 30 September 2026.
🔬 Youth Climate LAB 4 begins on 13 July
The fourth edition of the Youth Climate LAB starts on 13 July.
This immersive week will focus on eco-anxiety and resilience in education. Thank you to everyone who applied to join the lab!
The Youth Climate LAB is a peer-learning activity where young people work together on a climate-related issue, meet experts and co-create practical solutions that can be used by interested stakeholders. This edition will focus on building an action package with five practical recommendations and two interactive exercises.

✨ Community Spotlight: Anouk Mertens
The latest Community Spotlight features Anouk Mertens, Grant Facilitator and research fellow at KU Leuven, Belgium, and research associate at the University of Aruba.
Anouk shares how her work is helping small island communities strengthen climate resilience, sustainable technologies and resource management through higher education. She also reflects on SISSTEM and the GreenComp Evaluation Roadmap, and how the Education for Climate Community supports exchange, learning and collaboration around sustainability competences.

🌱 Next GreenComp Café – Intergenerational Fairness part 3/4
On 22 July 2026, the GreenComp Café Series 2026 continues with its third session, focused on co-creating practical activities around GreenComp and intergenerational fairness.
Participants will build on the ideas developed in the previous cafés and refine them into concrete projects or exercises that can be tested in different local contexts.
