Eco Next Gen is a project designed to educate future generations on climate action and sustainability, with a specific focus on consumerism across high-impact sectors such as textiles and food. The initiative is particularly centered around Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12, Responsible Consumption and Production. It aims to foster critical thinking and reflection among young people by exploring how their purchasing decisions influence global emissions and environmental degradation. The project addresses pressing issues such as greenwashing, enabling participants to recognize misleading environmental claims and make informed, responsible choices. By examining the environmental impact of various industries, Eco Next Gen seeks to empower students to adopt sustainable practices and advocate for meaningful change.
What sets Eco Next Gen apart is that it's led by someone from their own generation. As a young person myself, I understand the digitalized and social media-driven world they inhabit and this connection allow me to communicate in a more informal and engaging way that resonates with them. The project’s relevance and relatability are enhanced by this approach, making the content more impactful and memorable.
The program was successfully delivered to over 600 students in April, during Earth’s month, and received incredible feedback. We aim to bring Eco Next Gen back annually with different topics and expand it beyond our province to various parts of Spain. Looking ahead, we are excited to collaborate with local or provincial councils and educational institutions such as universities and high schools, tailoring the topics to suit different audiences and ensuring that the message continues to resonate and inspire across diverse educational settings
