Local facilitators

Local facilitators are active community members who volunteer to guide and energise a group of peers in community spaces, using English or an EU official language.

Facilitators should have a strong connection to the country they support, whether through residence, hosting arrangements, personal background or other close and ongoing ties.

They act as focal points of local community spaces and as ambassadors of the Coalition in the following ways.

Welcoming and supporting members

  • Welcome new members into their local community spaces, ensuring they know where to find relevant information and which activities and events are being hosted.
  • Support community managers in ensuring that the community etiquette is followed in local community spaces and support peer exchanges in local language(s).

Keeping communities informed and engaged

  • Keep local community members informed about key messages, outcomes and follow-up actions related to meetings, challenges, discussion topics, upcoming activities and events, and opportunities for engagement, while encouraging active participation in both the local and wider community. Community managers will support facilitators by providing ready-to-use information and materials to share.
  • Make use of the features available on the platform, such as creating topics or contributing comments to existing discussions. Facilitators may also tag relevant members to help increase visibility and notify users who may be interested in a topic. Community managers will support facilitators by providing ready-to-use information and materials to share with their local communities.

Representing the community

  • Participate in community events whenever possible, taking turns to attend cafés and community leadership meetings.

Main facilitator

To facilitate coordination with the Coalition's community managers, one facilitator will be designated as the main facilitator. This person will liaise with the other facilitators to ensure smooth collaboration and will:

  • encourage participation in community events, ensuring that at least one local facilitator takes part in community cafés, GreenComp cafés, Champions meetings, community leadership meetings and the Education for Climate Days, as well as in any follow-up actions needed to gather and reflect the views and feedback of the wider local community.

  • support engagement within the local community space, including participation in activities and the organisation of events and activities.

How to become a local facilitator

We want our local community spaces to be vibrant, inclusive and representative of the wider education community. To achieve this, each local facilitator team aims to bring together a diverse mix of students, teachers and other education stakeholders from different institutions and, where possible, different education levels. This helps ensure that a wide range of perspectives contribute to discussions and shape the Coalition's activities.

Facilitators work together as a team and have access to a dedicated private coordination space on the platform. This space is used to exchange ideas, coordinate activities and support the development of their local community in line with the Coalition's local community governance.

Interested in becoming a local facilitator?

To express your interest, request to join the private coordinator group for the local community you would like to support. The Secretariat will then follow up with you.

You can find the coordinator group on each country's overview page. To access it, visit the local community spaces and select the community of interest. The coordinator group can be found under 'Related content'.

Appointment and coordination

Upon selection, facilitators will work together as a team and jointly decide who will act as the main facilitator, taking into account the time that each person can realistically dedicate to the role.

The facilitators must communicate their decision to the community managers within one week of their first meeting.

If circumstances change, the facilitators may appoint a different main contact point. Any change must be communicated to the community managers within one week of the decision.

To explore the available local community spaces, visit the local community spaces page.
