‘Walking’ forest of 1,000 trees transforms Dutch city.

1000 trees are transported by locals along a 3,5 km stretch through the centre of the northern Dutch city of Leeuwarden, as part of the artistic project “Bosk” that aims to help people “imagine different possibilities” - and realize that there are indeed! Apart from cooling land surface temperatures (even by up to 12C in summer), the trees create a calming effect, offset cars’ environmental and health impacts, make streets people-friendly, and are used as a low-impact development solution (not least in low-income neighborhoods). The trees will be planted around the city from 14 August onwards.

Leeuwarden is the capital city of Friesland province, that aims to be the most circular region in the EU by 2025, with the contribution of our own E4C companions Heleentje Swart and Maximilian Eisenbart and their Spark movement!

It's nice to see trees in giant portable pots. Lonely trees can't stand it when they move after they take root. Because they are confusing where to get the sun.
