With this new release of our TALKS, we talk biodiversity with Grégoire Dubois, Belgian scientist working at the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission who leads the Knowledge Centre for Biodiversity of the European Commission.

Biodiversity, which is “nothing else than your life support system” as Grégoire puts it, is suffering catastrophic losses of species. During his lifetime, the JRC scientist tells us that “we lost 70% of the species in terms of abondance”. This never happened before over such a short period of time (a human generation).
Action is absolutely necessary, and international collaboration will play a big role. Grégoire Dubois explains in this video the main ambitious targets set for 2030 by the last UN Biodiversity Conference, the so-called COP15.
Education and training will obviously also play their part in raising awareness, but also in changing behaviours. One main tip from Grégoire addressed to students and teachers: “reconnect with nature.” A nice invitation to develop more nature-based learning projects!
2:10 - COP15 has just happened: what is the story behind the "COP"?
04:10 - How can we define biodiversity and why should we protect/restore it?
08:50 - What are the outcome of that COP15 and what is the next step?
12:35 - Main advice for students and teachers
