We are glad to work one more year on ALDEA programme, an Environmental Education Programme for the educational community, developed by the Regional Ministry of Education and Sport and the Regional Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Sustainable Development of the Government of Andalusia.

It's a programme that aims to promote the integrated development of environmental education initiatives in the current climate emergency situation, the connection with nature and renaturalisation of spaces, climate change, sustainable development and the relations of human beings with their social and natural environment (eco-social competence) will be the "backbone" of the development of any line of intervention and it is based on the four  educational pillars proposed by UNESCO: learning to knowlearning to dolearning to live together, and learning to be as four fundamental types of learning.

Last week we started with the first activities which where held by Ecoembes, a non-profit organisation that takes care of the environment through the recycling and environmentally-friendly design of light household packaging in Spain. A group of Ecoembes workers explained our students (5th grade) the recycling process, from beginning to end. We learned  what the chain is, from the moment household packaging is placed in the market to its arrival at recycling plants. We also learned how this process contributes to drive circular economy.

Dear María,

What a great program you are running in Andalusia, most of us we think this is way to create a different behavior about the time and era that we are living today.

Between the daily situations you are experiencing in your area and the national issues that we can find on the media, Andalusia shows us the worst consequences of climate change in Spain. It is crazy, but as much as you invest on solutions, bigger and harder situations you have to deal, example is the Plan INFOCA every single season (thinking in fires as the most terrible expression of climate change in the most of countries across the world).

As soon as new generations understand that their daily actions have strong impact around, it is imperative to push solutions in the field, I am talking about how to manage our landscapes and what we can do for more resilient places. I know how hard could be this, even with responder groups, but a transversality between every actors is primordial to achieve these goals.

Keep up the good work, cheers to the teachers and children!

Felipe.

Andalusia is feeling the heat of climate change more than other areas in Spain and, of course, in Europe. We are experiencing one of the highest temperatures hikes on the continent. This week temperatures are between 23ºC to 30ºC or over (and it's autumn!!!)
Last summer INFOCA fire-fighting plan started in Andalusia with the prospect of a "quite busy" summer ahead and, if things go on like that a "very very busy autumn", especially when the work campaign in the olive groves begins .
Besides, living not far away from Sierra de Cazorla, one of the most espectacular nature areas, declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1983 make us be passionate about getting our students outside and experiencing nature first-hand.
How easy it is to inspire and support our outdoor teaching with relevant activities, ideas and resources that actively engage our class or group.
I think environmental education is a tool for the sustainable development.
