NBS EduWORLD is an EC-funded Horizon Europe project (Grant Agreement N. 101060525), coordinated by European Schoolnet, aimed at nurturing a nature-based solutions (NBS) literate society by supporting a just transition to a sustainable future. For this, NBS EduWORLD is creating a community that facilitates synergies between NBS professionals and education providers, and ensures free and easy access to NBS knowledge and resources for all.
Integrating NBS in education is key to ensuring a greener and better future for all. NBS EduWORLD targets all levels and types of education (formal, informal and non-formal) to make citizens aware and supported in the understanding of the value and transformative potential of nature in urban, rural and coastal areas. Through this work, communities should become more prepared, cohesive and participative in engaging with nature and using the benefits of nature to solve some of the world’s most pressing environmental, social and economic challenges.
Other specific objectives of the project are:
- Support integrated STEM teaching and Inquiry-Based Science Education (IBSE) by exploring real-world applications of NBS, feeding into the broader EU STEM education strategy.
- Explore and implement new dissemination and mobilisation strategies to suit broader lifelong learning on NBS through 21st-century technologies and transversal skill development.
- Explore synergies between NBS and the emerging field of education for environmental sustainability (EES).
To achieve these objectives and much more, the project brings together a unique consortium of researchers, educators, NBS practitioners, and even theatre performers and sports community members with the shared goal to create an NBS EduWORLD, a community that makes a difference.
The NBS EduWORLD portal (https://nbseduworld.eu) provides you with all the latest news and information about project’s actions, and its NBS EduDirectory (Resources Repository) contains more than 200 ready-to-use resources for educators and other educational stakeholders on NBS: https://nbseduworld.eu/resources.
NBS EduWORLD is participating to the Education for Climate Call for Inspiring Good Practices with its published 15 Learning Scenarios, based on the NBS EduWORLD Learning Scenario template including GreenComp.
The Learning Scenarios published by NBS EduWORLD, created by teachers for teachers, are useful resources to introduce NBS to young learners and carry out indoors and outdoors activities with them related to NBS and sustainability. They are based on the NBS EduWORLD Learning Scenario Template, which includes the GreenComp Framework and the 12 NBS Societal Challenge Areas, therefore they all address at least one element of each framework. The Learning Scenarios are for primary, lower secondary and upper secondary education, and they cover some of the most pressing topics around NBS and education for sustainability, such as: NBS infrastructures against climate disasters, NBS at school (green school yards/roofs, vegetable gardens, smart gardens, etc.), urban greening, sustainable architecture, green jobs, water management, and so on. They include a wide range of pedagogies, such as project- and problem-based learning, inquiry-based learning, outdoor learning, they are student-centred, interdisciplinary and include hands-on activities. The Learning Scenarios are flexible and adaptable by teachers according to their needs and national curriculum, as they are all published under CC-BY 4.0 license. All NBS EduWORLD Learning Scenarios are available on the NBS EduDirectory and on Scientix, by clicking on the "Teacher Information" tab on the project page.
Dear Chiara Longobardi ,
Congratulations on such an interesting project and variety of learning scenarios included!
I had the pleasure to read your full submissions, including your surveys, and they are inspiring learning scenarios. As explained in the call page and in the survey, I have now proceeded to curate your post to include all the relevant tags. However, I believe that the community would benefit from learning more about your methodology, subjects involved project, and a more detailed explanation in each learning scenario of your project.
Would you mind editing your blog post adding this information for the rest of the community? Please follow the instructions in the video: https://education-for-climate.ec.europa.eu/community/GreenCompCommunity…
