We recently hosted 18 high school students and their 4 teachers for an insight-packed workshop on education for environmental sustainability! The students were incredibly impressive and well-versed in systems thinking, which made for some truly engaging and thought-provoking discussions.

What was on?

The workshop was focused on promoting critical action engagement around green competences within the newly established GreenComp community via a conversation game.

Green competences are the skills, knowledge, and attitudes required to live and work in a sustainable way, and they're essential for addressing the environmental challenges facing our planet.

During the workshop, we played a game that focused on green competences, which gave the participants the opportunity to learn about and discuss together how to develop these skills. We also had some critical conversations about community priorities, sustainable development goals, and how we can work together to establish partnerships for these goals.

What did we learn?

One of the most inspiring aspects of the workshop was seeing how the students were not only identifying problems, but also engaging in identifying how to address them via individual and collective action to foster their own/group's initiatives.

game summary

By bridging education with science for good health and well-being, clean water and sanitation, and sustained climate action, they argued to develop the green skills and competences that will serve them well in the future.

Ultimately, their goal was to reduce inequalities and poverty, promote responsible consumption and production, and work towards peace, justice, and strong institutions. By empowering these young people with the tools they need to make a positive impact on the world, we're confident that we can achieve these goals together.

What now?

We're so grateful to have had the opportunity to host this amazing group of young and intelligent people. It's always a joy to provide a space for deep conversations, especially between teachers and students beyond the limited classroom opportunities.

Our door is always open, so please don't hesitate to reach out if you're interested in participating in a similar workshop in the future.

Together, we can make a real difference in creating a more sustainable and equitable world for all.
