In the 2023-24 school year, the Eco-Schools programme in England has contributed to inspire and empower young minds to take action for a sustainable future.
The 2023-2024 impact report reveals an interesting set of success stories, such as:
- 1.4 million pupils participated in schools implementing Eco-Schools in England.
- 50,303 pupils joined Eco-Committees, taking the lead in their schools’ sustainability journey.
- 7,623 adults and 120,508 external collaborators engaged in Eco-Schools activities, building a community of change-makers.
For Pramod Kumar Sharma, Senior Director of Education at the Foundation for Environmental Education, the impact is clear:
- 97.4% of educators report Eco-Schools improved leadership and teamwork among students.
- 96.9% saw increased confidence in their pupils.
- 98.2% noted a boost in environmental awareness in their institutions.
- 70.4% felt the programme helped reduce eco-anxiety among young people.
- 98.3% said it developed essential 'green skills,' preparing students for a sustainable future.
- 83.2% saw a positive impact on their local communities.
