If Only They Knew

A poor polar bear, stranded on a tiny iceberg.
If only people knew how bad climate change already is, how many tipping points we have crossed, how many species we have lost, and what happened in the past, then we would all act differently.

If only people knew how bad climate change already is:  the hundreds of billions in damages,  the floods in Pakistan and elsewhere, global hunger, starvation in Africa,   the heat and droughts, the failing crops, the burning forests the no-longer-navigable rivers, the hurricanes, tornadoes, the extreme cold the rising sea levels... if only people knew about the tipping points we have crossed, the albedo effect, the permafrost emitting methane, the oceans releasing methane, the failing atlantic currents,  and the oceans, forests, and wet lands, storing less carbon.  if only people knew that the historic impacts of climate change were always bad...

If only they knew, we would be doing things differently. Well soon the younger generation will know, and they will educate their friends and their families. Activists will demand change, we will implement more climate solutions and there will be more climate victories.    Thank you EU for making this happen.

And "we will not solve global climate change by hitting the delete button.” Tom Brokaw
We are in the middle of an unprecedented crisis that has happened in this century. Despite our technological advances, nature has shown us the importance of the natural world and how unsustainable our lifestyles have become. In order for our children and youth to inherit a better and safer world, it has become imperative to empower them with the knowledge and leadership skills to meet future environmental challenges.

Setting a list of ongoing disasters will make sense if we try to connect them and extract the different causes. Looking for solutions could come after identifying drivers .

Thank you. My big pet peeve, is that because of censorship allegedly paid for by the carbon lobby, people just do not know what is going on. Amazing how many people I meet have no idea about the recent floods in Pakistan.

I agree that it is important to connect the events with the climate science. I recommend a lot of such content.

And I totally agree that solutions are also hugely important. Otherwise there is no hope. I did include many suggested solutions, in the proposed syllabus edits.

It is also critical to talk about climate change victories. We do not hear much about that either.
