The 5th European Education Summit puts youth and education centre stage and it will be a unique occasion to exchange on key issues and policy developments, and for the community to take stock of the developments of the European Education Area, share good practices and reflect on future opportunities. This year’s Summit will address questions such as:

  • how can we improve the education sector to the benefit of all?
  • how can education and training be made more inclusive to allow everyone to reach their full potential?
  • how can investment be better targeted to ensure quality and inclusive education?
  • what role can education play in making the European Green Deal a reality?
  • how can we ensure that young people are equipped with the green and digital skills needed to thrive and innovate in a sustainable way?
  • how can we future-proof education systems to make them more resilient?

The Education for Climate Coalition is happy to be central part of the Summit via its community members!

Participation is also a matter of representation, and so we are proud to have community members presenting our joint ambition on behalf of the community to open up opportunities.

>> Join Miglena GEORGIEVA , one of our Bulgarian country coordinators, during the panel on "Building the European Education Area: From vision to reality" from 11:30 to 12:15.
You might also recognize Conor GALVIN from our Education for Climate Days 2022 in the same session.

>> Join Iselin Berg Mulvik , a member of our advisory group, and Stefan ZOTTI , part of our Secretariat, from 14:30 to 15:25 in a session dedicated to our purpose: "Education for Climate: Making a Change towards Environmental Sustainability".

Glad to hear Conor GALVIN talking about sometimes lack of confidence coming from teachers and necessity to include them in the conversation, proceed by cocreation empowering them so that the can increase their confidence. Teachers need support, but also to be empowered.

Very nice to hear Miglena GEORGIEVA explaining how teachers lack sometimes knowledge on concrete measures put in place, and how Education for Climate can be the place to tackle this issue by giving the possibility for people to engage in a conversation and share ideas and information. This is opened to "everyone" on "whatever" content as she very nicely puts it!

How to make change happen: we need to reflect on how give support to teachers. Often, sustainable education is not part of the initial training of the teachers. So they might not be fully updated. This is why the Education for Climate community could make a change and fill that gap.

GreenComp is also a nice improvement but we need more frameworks at national level. Ability to recognize what is being learned is crucial.

Igor Papič ‐ Minister of Education, Science and Sport from Slovenia considers that the main question is should we do what we have as independent steps, or parallel processes. Who will have the main challenges ? Students or teachers. Teachers might be the first one we should focus on. But we must proceed with parallel tracks.
