Sustainability and circularity are essential competences for the current and future generations, as they need to deal with the global challenges and opportunities of the green transition. However, these concepts are not easy to grasp, as they involve complex and uncertain social, economic, and environmental aspects.

How can we help students develop a holistic and systemic understanding of sustainability and circularity issues?

One way is to teach them how to use stakeholder analysis, a tool that helps them identify and understand the perspectives, interests, and power relations of different actors involved in these issues. Here we present a method for high school students that teaches them how to apply stakeholder analysis in various contexts and topics, such as product life cycle, food waste, or sustainable mobility.

The method is based on the CircularCityChallenge project, which aims to foster circular economy solutions in urban areas. The curriculum is also based on current discussions on sustainability education, social learning, and systems thinking.

This is the group to discuss the challenges and opportunities for implementing the curriculum in different educational settings, provide suggestions for future research and practice, and learn more about how to teach students stakeholder analysis for sustainability and circularity.
