projects and challenges

  • Implementing Whole School Approach
  • Collaborating with schools to develop tools to operationalise green comp at the school level.
  • Permacultur principles to kids taught starting with lees garbage made
  • Sustainability should be included into normal schools curricula creating concrete links with different school subjects
  • AI and green competences in kingergarden children.
  • working on adult education schools teachers teacher training and at policy level
  • How to integrate it into the formal curriculum
  • Reaching out teachers, concretely, is difficult.

  • TECCGED Project Climate education for teacher training with
    technoologies https://tecched.eu/
  • POW Protectourwinters - teach CC and especially its effect on alpine mountain communities and on our glaciers - we have the challenge of reaching and teaching the children in schools where we have an ongoing project but also just reach all users of the alpine valleys and services to act sustainably in their outdoor activity.
  • A new project on using FREE GIS (geographic information system) tools for Climate Education - GIS-T Project for schools and teachers https://gis-t.eu/
  • EUROGEO has catalogued hundreds of good climate resources for education at https://www.eurogeography.eu/projects/geodem/gallery
    of-resources-2/
  • EUROGEO is also working on a landscape education project called GEOLAND - landcape evaluation in Europe and protecting fragile areas https://www.geolandproject.eu/
  • Another project which we are involved in is GEA: Growing into Eco- Conscious adults -looks at the potential of citizen science to empower adults https://geaeducation.eu/
  • Working towards making E+ more environmentally friendly, reduce its carbon footprint, and encourage sustainable means of transport. Main challenges: green top up, attitudes, infrastructure

Belgium

  • Do you want to join the poster campaign about IPCC report syntheses? The poster and the syntheses are currently translated in : English - French - Dutch - German - Estonian - Greek - Italian - Polish - Romanian - Spanish More information here: https://www.uniforchange.uliege.be/cms/c_18996754/en/postercampaign-
    on-ipcc-reports
  • Challenge is there is too much information - a lot of it is promoting misinformation - so we wanted to create a Web site with teachers with the resources they
recommended to us Have a look at https://www.eurogeography.eu/projects/geodem/gallery
    of-resources-2/
  • International (initiated in Belgium) I'm working for the UNI for Change
dynamic. UNI for Change is a worldwide community acting for sustainability.
  • I work at the Green Office of the University of Liège on a commitment program to commit students and staff members. We aim to accelerate the installation of a new sustainable culture through the adoption of new habits! Learn more on our website: https://www.greenoffice.

  • I would like to share this website https://education4climate.be/index.html?
lang=en developed by Shifters Belgium which provides a very complete database of climate courses and educational resources in Belgium, which I think could be expanded to include other countries.

Croatia

  • Lack of educational materials: The lack of specialized textbooks and resources that are adapted for climate change teaching can tend to create curriculum and materials.
  • Lack of education: Teachers may not have enough training or education on current scientific knowledge about climate change, which can limit them in properly communicating information.
  • Awareness and interaction with students: Sometimes there is a challenge in raising awareness among students about the importance of climate change and the need for action to address these changes.
  • Encouraging activism: Encouraging students to actively participate in environmental conservation can be a challenge, as it requires engagement and practical actions outside the classroom.
  • Connecting to real situations: Connecting climate change to concrete local situations and student examples can be challenging, as it requires adapting global themes to local circumstances.

France

  • Green competences for professionals of the tourism field.
  • Challenges: integrating the green comp framework in our training actions

Germany/ Netherlands

  • We are collaborating with a Dutch uni in understanding children’s perspectives on sustainability (German preschool) Also exploring the collaborative role of families and educators in inculcating sustainable values and behaviours on the children (case study: The Netherlands)

Greece

  • I try to change my schoolyard by planting, hanging less garbage, by composting, recycling.

Ireland

  • Happy to say that climate deniers are no longer an issue here in Ireland which is I guess one bit of good news, probably due to the big climate education movement in Ireland. Inspiring ACTION is our issue.
  • Sustainability is a core in Home Economics in Irish secondary schools.. Challenge : the need for grounds to become good examples of sustainabilty ..aka resources for solar energy , recycling structures , compoating structures Teaching skills for a curcular economy : skills for upcycling fabric , repairing materials To continue the education about sustainability that starts in primary schools into secindary schools eg growing veg
  • I am a home Economics teacher in an Irish secondary school. I am supporting students who are creating a school garden .The students are funded by
    Euteens4green.

Italy

  • Establishing connections and creating a stable community of people engaged into the topic

Portugal

  • Teaching and researching for Civil Engineers. Lack of data is the major problem.

ideas to overcome them

  • Implementing Whole School Approach
  • Let's collaborate and share! 😊
  • Keeping in touch with teachers about activities to increase awareness about green
  • Teacher training through Erasmus academies
  • Since challenges can be different among countries a repository of initiatives and successful projects where to find inspiration can be helpful
  • Until policy makers are prepared to make the space in schools for green education it will remain marginal and we will not make real progress
  • post primary level..GReenhouses, garden beds , composting , recycling , solar energy, sewong machines etc to promote  textile upcycling
  • A challenge is our educator job but we have to depart from children imagination and not from our own vision
  • Discover decisional trees to  help understand the complexity of sustainability https://www.uniforchange.uliege.be/cms/c_18831823/en/uniforchange-thema…
  • I think teaching  subjects and sustainability shouldn’t be two different aspects. It has to be and need to be integrated skilfully into subjects.
  • I agree we need to get kids out of the classroom looking at their own local environment - doing 60% less than pre-Covid
  • Transform education systems for interdisciplinary curricular structure and promote active learning pedagogies
  • Schools as living labs
  • Sustainabilty  is now 1/3 of the home economcis curicullum in junior cycle in Ireland ..this has been a success
  • Climate education resources from EUROGEO - available at https://www.eurogeography.eu/projects/geodem/gallery-of-resources-2/
  • With IDEASCANNER, we democratize the expert knowledge of venture capitalists (VCs) in entrepreneurship education for scaling also green business ideas with AI.
