Our new project Environmental Detectives: using experiential STEM environmental education with a focus on natural sciences in the context of "urban green" to develop assessment and design skills among children in disadvantaged neighbourhoods and motivate them to take environmental action. Identify own strengths and interests, promote teamwork, creativity, solution-oriented thinking and proactive attitude to action, perceive self-efficacy and broaden understanding of the Agenda 2030 Sustainability Goals.
Green spaces can be highly beneficial for children's physical, mental and social development.
We need interventions focused on empowering communities to reclaim and maintain their local green spaces, enlisting government support to improve and create green spaces in cities.
