What are the Science Holidays Almtal?

The Science Holidays Almtal are an initiative of the Konrad Lorenz Research Center of the University of Vienna, together with regional partners and stakeholders from education and tourism. We hands-on activities in Summer in order to promote connection to nature, understanding of science and general awareness about environmental processes, thereby including climate change.

Concrete, it is about one week of experts- workshops and DIY-activities outdoor for kids aged 8 to 12. We reach out directly to approx. 150 persons per year and indirectly to >10.000 (other visitors, family memebers, school classes).

Our approach includes ...

Hands-On by DIY activities

Promoting Peer-To-Peer activities among different age groups

Dialogue with experts and stakeholders

Promoting science and art approaches - Space for creativity

Combining intellectual with physical activities

Citizen Science

Our Topics are ...

Nature Conservation

Ecological relationships

Animal behavior

Animal Cognition

Sustainability

Science and Art

Where do we stand, what comes next?

Our activities are important for building scientific literacy, for the local and regional welfare, for the regional networking in rural areas.

We need to build capacity for reaching out to more persons and for offering prolonged activities
