Vítězslav Slíva is ministerial Councillor in the Department of Strategy and analytics of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic. He is also representing his country in the expert working group set up by the European Commission on Schools - learning for sustainability.

In this TALK, he shares with us the strategy and initiatives of the Czech Republic education ministry regarding sustainable education. He explains how his country is having a long term plan (10 years) and is now reaching the second implementation part of this whole strategy with sustainable education being tackled as a cross-cutting topic. Recommendations will follow at state level but also at municipality and school level. Note that schools in Czech Republic are able to define their own curriculum beyond the curriculum framework decided at national level.

Czech Republic is also currently going through a revision of the curricula of elementary schools and the ministry is looking after the concrete implementation at school level. But Vítězslav also touches upon the issue of teachers training, decarbonisation of the school infrastructure and implementation of the policies counting on an efficient collaboration between various ministries and services, but also between policy experts, academics, NGOs and practitioners acting on the ground in order to avoid the disconnection between policy level and classrooms as it happens maybe too often.
