The Terra Mission MOOC will give primary and secondary teachers the opportunity to raise environmental awareness in their schools and beyond. This course aims to provide participants with knowledge of contemporary sustainability issues and tools to help students take action on climate change.
Participants not only will explore the Terra Mission educational resources but also learn about outdoor experiences and practical assignments. Furthermore, the MOOC will guide them into creating their own learning scenarios based on the Terra Mission Educational Pack.
Learning objectives
- Learn how to integrate the Terra Mission Educational Pack in the school curricula.
- Learn how to teach sustainability in the classroom for climate action.
- Learn how to integrate outdoor education and practical assignments in the school curricula.
- Gain a well-rounded understanding of contemporary sustainability issues.
- Learn how to transmit this newly acquired knowledge to the students.
- Discover different educational methodologies that stimulate students’ analytical and critical thinking skills, collaboration, communication, and active participation competencies.
Prerequisites
The course is open to primary and secondary teachers (8-14 y/o students) coming from all subjects who are interested in sustainability, climate action, and STEM.

Certification
In order to earn a course certificate, course participants need to pass all the quizzes, submit a Learning Scenario and review 3 of their peers' Learning Scenarios. Participation in the quizzes will count for 10%, and the Learning Scenario together with the peer reviews will count for 90%.
The overall passing grade is 95%.
The final deadline to complete all activities is 18 October 2023, 23:59 CEST.

Miriam Molina - Course Coordinator
(Early Years Education / Project Coordination and Pedagogy) works as a Project and Pedagogical Coordinator in the Science Education Department of European Schoolnet (EUN). Miriam oversees the day-to-day coordination of the Life Terra and Accelerating Teaching projects. She supports Scientix and the NBS EduWORLD project in coordinating and developing teachers’ training activities.
Michalina Partyga - Course Coordinator
Michalina Partyga works as a Project Officer in the Science Education Department of European Schoolnet (EUN). Michalina assists with the Life Terra and Accelerating Teaching projects where she coordinates teachers’ activities, designs MOOCs, and organizes professional development activities for teachers. She also supports Scientix Ambassadors and STEM School Label.
Ana Belen Yuste - Course Moderator
Ana Belen Yuste is Scientix Ambassador, support teacher in the Life Terra project, and Ambassador of the European Climate Pact in Spain. She holds a degree in Environmental Sciences and is a biology teacher, head of studies, tutor of the Teaching Digitization Plan, and STEAM Project Coordinator at the IES Consaburum in Consuegra (Toledo, Spain), as well as founder of Zienziaburum: Annual Science Fair since the 2017-18 academic year. Speaker at COP27 side event of the Education for Climate Coalition of the European Commission with the "Glup-Glup" project, second prize in Education for Climate Days of the European Commission under the motto "Climate resilient: co-creating learning for sustainability.
Behind the course
Life Terra is founded on the knowledge that tree planting is regarded as the most cost-effective nature-based solution to capture carbon. As part of a multi-faceted mitigation strategy, planting trees can play an important role in the fight against climate change and the devastation it causes. The project seeks to bring people together to plant 500 million trees, harnessing and monitoring nature’s own carbon capture mechanism and enabling citizens to take urgent action against the climate crisis.
Scientix, the community for science education in Europe, promotes and supports a Europe-wide collaboration among STEM teachers, education researchers, policymakers, and other STEM education professionals.
