Welcome to the Social Economy Lab

Happening during the Policy Forum 2023!

As students, teachers, practitioners, researchers, and policymakers in the social economy space, we recognize the crucial role that sustainability education plays in building a more sustainable and equitable society. However, the social economy is constantly evolving, and we need to stay ahead of the curve to prepare ourselves and our communities for the challenges ahead.

So:

1. What does this change mean for social economy and sustainability education policy? How do we need to address or re-dress policy to integrate sustainability education into the social economy an vice versa?

2. And what about education practice? What are the good practices out there that can help us integrate sustainability education into our social economy work and vice versa to prepare ourselves and our communities for a sustainable future?

3. Lastly, collaboration is key. What are the next steps that we need to take together to ensure that we are integrating sustainability education into the social economy to move towards a more sustainable and equitable society?

Let's explore these questions and more in the Social Economy Lab.

What did we learn together?
We problematized the following:
1. Technical skills and transversal skills are both required to meet the skill demand of the green transition.
2. The problem lies in translating ideas into concrete policy/ practice action on the ground.
3. There is a perceived opposition between environmental goals and social goals.
4. Children and adults are both important age groups to focus on for equipping them with environmental and sustainability awareness and action-knowledge.
5. Non-formal work experience is important and should be valued and training programs should be designed to motivate and engage for stustainability behaviour.
education.
6. Inclusion of people into the social/labor market should be a priority in the green transition.

What's missing from this summary? What actions are you now up to? What materials, experiences, good practices, referrals could you share with others`?
Let's bring it together here!
