Together for a green future

In the current context, of drastic climate change, with extremes to which all organisms must adapt, it is necessary to develop an education for a GREEN behavior. Romania is considered “ Grădina Maicii Domnului ” because it has been blessed with all Landforms: sea (“Marea Neagră“ ), delta (“Delta Dunării“ ), plains, mountains (“Munții Carpați“), and as a result with a biodiversity specific to these formations.

Delta Dunării/Danube Delta, the most recent territory of Romania, obtained by Danube Delta’s overflow into the Marea Neagră/Black Sea, is a biosphere reservation, and a UNESCO protected territory since 1990. It is the third largest in Europe, and encompasses over 3000 km² of ecosystems, natural aquatic, terrestrial, 30 habitats protected at European level, 8 of which are strictly protected being found only in Romania. We have in the country over 10 parks considered natural reserves where there are endemic species.

"Mihai Eminescu" National College – Suceava, it is one of the city's elite high schools, thisbeautiful city is part of Bucovina's land also called Țara fagilor/Country of beech trees. In theselands people were brothers with nature, the words of the great poet Mihai Eminescu ”codru-i frate cu românul” and even passed on the Bucovina’s coat as symbols the eagle and the aurochs, as a symbol of power and the wild rose (rosehip) as a symbol of faith. Unfortunately, the aurochs, as a species, is an example of an animal - symbol that disappeared from this territory. Endangered is also the bison, a relative of his, who is in danger of extinction, and it can only be found in reservations.

Lord of Moldova Stefan cel Mare/Stephen the Great a great lover of nature, which” ne-a

fost baci până la adânci bătrâneți”/ “who has been our ruler for ages”, left a message to this

effect for current generations saying that "Moldova is not mine, nor yours, but of your

descendants, your descendants forever and ever. Amen." It is important to follow the example given and reflect more on how we educate ourselves to future generations...

Thus, within the National College "Mihai Eminescu" - Suceava, over the years we have implemented several national and international programs” LEAF", "ECO-SCHOOLS”,” ERASMUS – BIODIVERSITY”,” ECO – PHOTOGRAPH”,” GREEN PATROL”,"SAVE THE BIRDS AND THE TREES","WATER, THE SPRING OF LIFE", which had the purpose to educate the current generations for the three Rs, “RESOURCES – RECOVERY – RECYCLING.” We have worked with other institutions in the city and county to track this chain recycling for different resources. I must mention that Suceava is a green city because district heating is on BIOGAS and the public transport is equipped with a bus park and electric minibuses.

Moving citizens by these means of transport reduces pollutant emissions and thus

preserves cleaner air. It is also foreseen that following the renovation of the school buildings to switch to energy production with photovoltaic panels. Through planting programs, we strengthened the "protection curtain" of Zamca forest with acacia trees and thus contributed to fixing the land subject to slips and created a biodiversity favorable to the development of pollinator species, especially bees. In fact, we have students passionate about beekeeping, which within these projects popularized their activity and made the school population aware regarding the production and consumption of bee products (honey, pasture, propolis, jelly royal type, etc.), as well as their health benefits.

Through these programs we highlighted the role of plants from spontaneous flora, also

present in the anthropic environment (park school), in the prevention and treatment of

diseases. In this biotope we identified one hundred and fifty species of plants, largely medicinal and aromatic (thyme, yarrow, chicory, pine, dandelion, measles, celandine, white nettle, wormwood, etc.) With the help of students, we collected a variety recyclable material, plastic, paper, cardboard, cans, bottles, household appliances, textile waste which we handed over to collection centers, thus contributing to recycling and saving Resources. Unfortunately, we found that in the North-Eastern part of the country there are only collection centers and less recycling centers. Even large chain stores do not provide such services except in very small measure. By establishing bilateral contracts with schools in their arrondissement, they could recycle for the benefit of both parties. We could develop a green industry based on raw materials obtained only from recycling, which we do not currently have much.

By promoting traditional ECO – BIO products, numerous manufacturing networks have

been developed (jams, pastries – confectionery, natural juices from blueberries, apples,

cranberries, sea buckthorn, pickles, dairy products, mushroom specialties, local trout products, etc.). In obtaining which current and former students are involved. With the help of the current and former students who are involved. We achieved the touristic side through the activities we promoted tourism in Bucovina. For tourism and recreational purposes, but also as a teaching base for pupils and students, we had a wide concern for the study of parks and forests in Suceava. Thus, we identified two forests to protect the city from pollutants in industrial areas. Zamca forest/park located on the N-W slope of Suceava, where we have drawn thematic routes for educational purposes, study of flora (especially the arboreal vegetation that includes in this mixed forest species of pines, spruces, larches, lindens, poplars, acacia, willow, etc.), fauna and abiotic factors contributing to landscape modification (landslides, infiltration, water runoff, etc.).

Şipote park/forest which includes The Seat Fortress of Suceava, the Village Museum, the

equestrian statue of Ștefan cel Mare and the dendrological park, considered kilometer 0 of

Suceava represent a green point with a special historical charge. We identified seven recreational parks located around administrative buildings: University’s “Ștefan cel Mare” park, Palace of Justice Park, European Union Park, Park Simion, Florea Marian, "Museum of Natural Sciences" Park, Mărășești Square Park, Park Areni square.

In all these spaces were planted coniferous and deciduous species as well as herbaceous

species with scientific, ornamental, medicinal value.

In conclusion, all these programs contributed to the development of responsible

behavior towards the environment and led to the involvement of the whole community in

regional development for a GREEN FUTURE.
