Education for Climate Coalition at COP28

We are glad to announce that the Education Climate community will be present at COP28 via an online side-event entitled “Education for Climate: boosting Green Competences for Education Transformation”.

This year again, more than ever, we wanted to be present at the United Nations Climate Change Conference or Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC (the “COP”).

Education is indeed increasingly being addressed by the COPs which offer the opportunity for important discussions on the major role that education can play in preparing our societies for and responding to climate change.

Education for Climate TALKS of the month

Why does education need a rounder sense of purpose? - ft. Paul Vare

Paul Vare, life-long expert on sustainable education and researcher at the University of Gloucestershire’s School of Education, shares his views on green education and on the goals and details of the Erasmus+ project he is involved in:“ A Rounder Sense of Purpose”.

As Paul explains, this project is a competence framework for teachers, inviting them to open their mind about what could be their role as teachers for a “rounder sense of purpose”, which means embracing complexity, having a systemic thinking approach, working across disciplines and with others, focusing on action-led education, etc., rather than as “teachers for literacy and numeracy, and a bit of other subjects around the fringe”...

The 15-minute concept and the school as “the capital of the neighbourhood” - ft. Carlos Moreno

“We need to implement the 15-minute city to transform our districts. And in each one of our districts, the school will be the capital of the neighbourhood”.

That is what Carlos Moreno, researcher of international renown, Associate Professor at Sorbonne University in Paris and creator of the concept of the 15-minute City, is telling us.
For him, schools should become a place open to everyone, adults included, for sports and cultural activities on nights and weekends: a way of putting the school back at “the centre of the village”, both figuratively and literally.
