Problem Framing

Problem framing means identifying actual or potential sustainability problems in terms of difficulty, people involved, time and geographical scope. It aims at developing suitable approaches to be able to anticipate and prevent problems, and to mitigate and adapt to already existing problems.

It defines what is challenging about a given situation and identifies the best action to address it, which involves systems thinking. In essence, problem framing helps defining goals and the direction the problems solving process should take.
