Community Bulletin June 2022

Susanne SZKOLA
Susanne SZKOLA • 2 June 2022

Dear community,

"There is a 50:50 chance of the annual average global temperature temporarily reaching 1.5 °C above the pre-industrial level for at least one of the next five years – and the likelihood is increasing with time, according to a new climate update issued by the World Meteorological Organization."

This means more and harsher weather extremes in many places of the world with as negative repercussions on social-ecological ecosystems.

Individually, we might be overwhelmed | together, we can leverage our community to contribute to solutions addressing this. We've got a whole summer ahead of us to do so!

  • Check now which participatory challenges are on to act together, look forward to what will be on soon and re-live what we already achieved together.

Let's co-create the community's own educational map around climate change & environmental sustainability in the European Atlas of the Seas to be re-used in classrooms and educational activities - with a game.

How to make saving water a lifelong habit?

This challenge community-sourced & collectively chose 3 learning activities addressing how to make saving water a lifelong habit.

Teachers, students, some time left at the end of the school year to try something fun and new?

What works, what doesn't work already when wanting to use/apply the activity outlines as-is?

These activity test-runs and their feedback will allow us to prepare the community’s first co-created standardized learning materials!

Until June 19: Try and test those 3 activities in your classrooms!

June 22: Join working session and give feedback

Let's improve our community platform together

Roughly six months after our co-designed community platform launched, we would like to take the time with you to gather what is intuitive and where we need to adapt!

We are interested in your feedback as #EducationForClimate community platform users!

until June 28: give async feedback | July 13: join sync prototyping

What is intuitive, what do we need to improve?

Let's plant 3 billion trees!

The right tree has to be planted in the right place for the right purpose.
In this challenge with DG Environment, let’s share, brainstorm, co-create and foster synergies for what learning environments can do for sustainable tree planting and school gardening.

What do you already do for sustainable tree planting? Which activities? What materials? How do you secure the resources you need?

Until 21st August: inspire the community with your actions via 'create idea'!

A community workshop visit

Since we co-created the community during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, the visit of a school group with their teachers from Italy in the middle of May was the first in-person community get-together!

We were so happy to meet our community members and to have an action-driven workshop on education for environmental sustainability with them!
